Ladakh is a high-altitude Himalayan desert of monasteries, mountain passes and electric-blue lakes. From Leh you cross Khardung La into Nubra Valley's Hunder dunes, push on to the Balti village of Turtuk near the Indo-Pak border, and reach Pangong Tso, whose water shifts from turquoise to deep blue.
