Dang Rupgadh — Monsoon Trek & Firefly Camping

Dang, Gujarat 1N / 2D4.8 (0 reviews)

Trip overview

Dang district holds the densest forest in Gujarat and the state's heaviest rainfall — around 2,500 mm a monsoon — and from July it turns heavenly. Over two days you trek to Rupgadh, one of the very few hill forts of Gujarat at 1,670 ft near Kalibel — a short yet beautiful climb through dense forest and muddy trail that gets a bit stiff in places. Between treks you'll visit places like Pampa Sarovar, Shabri Dham, the Girmal and Mahal waterfalls, the U-Turn Point and Mayadevi, bathe under a waterfall or in a flowing river, and head out on a special night hike to see fireflies light up the jungle. Nights are spent in camping tents or a common hall, over delicious homemade Dangi food, campfire, music and Garba. The itinerary stays flexible with the weather and the group's interest, and you'll be informed of any changes in advance. Indicative price ₹2,999 per person; 5% GST applies.

Frequently asked

Where and when is the reporting point?

Day 1 reporting is at 5:00 AM at Kamrej Highway, Surat. Departures are available from Ahmedabad, Baroda and Surat.

How difficult is the Rupgadh trek?

It's graded easy (about 2/5) over roughly 6 km, suitable for ages 14–50. The forest-and-mud trail does get a bit stiff in places, so carry hiking or sport shoes with a rain cover for your backpack.

When is the best time to go?

Peak monsoon — July to September, and especially July–August — when the waterfalls are alive, the forest is greenest and the fireflies are out.
